Lamar P. Pugh

Lamar P. Pugh LAMAR P. PUGH concentrates the majority of his practice on medico-legal, health care regulatory, employment, estates and probate and business litigation. On January 1, 2020 he became one of twenty-four attorneys in Louisiana to qualify as a Board Certified Health Law Specialist by the Louisiana State Bar Association Board of Legal Specialization. He attended Baylor University where he earned his B.B.A. and M.B.A. degrees, both with honors. He attended Louisiana State University where he earned his J.D. degree and was named to the Robert Lee Tullis, Moot Court Board. He has practiced in various federal and state trial and appellate courts in Louisiana and Texas.

For over thirty years, Mr. Pugh has provided legal and regulatory advice to a variety of hospitals, long term care facilities, medical practices and physicians as well as employers in Louisiana and Texas. He has conducted compliance and human resource training for over 10,000 health care employees, regarding a variety of topics related to Healthcare Compliance including Medicare Fraud and Abuse, HIPAA and EMTALA. Additionally, he handles peer review matters for both hospitals and practitioners and represents physicians in front of the LSBME.

Mr. Pugh has given seminars and/or written articles for the Louisiana State Medical Society, Louisiana Hospital Association, LAMMICO, American College of Healthcare Executives, Louisiana Society of Hospital Attorneys, Northwest Louisiana Society of Human Resource Managers, Shreveport Medical Society, Bossier Medical Society, Louisiana Medical Mutual Insurance Company, North Louisiana Dental Association, Willis-Knighton Health System, Louisiana State Medical School in Shreveport, Shreveport Bar Association and Lorman Business Institute.

Mr. Pugh is an active member of the American, Federal and State Bars Associations of Louisiana and Texas, and the Shreveport Bar Association. Mr. Pugh currently serves as Chairman of the Louisiana State Bar Association Health Law Section and also serves as Chairman of the Health Law Specialization Advisory Commission for the Louisiana State Bar Association. Mr. Pugh is a member of the Shreveport Bar Association where he has served as Secretary-Treasurer, Executive Council Member as well as President of the Young Lawyers Section. He is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association and Health Care Compliance Association and has been a member of the Harry V. Booth and Judge Henry A. Politz American Inn of Court. Additionally, he has served on numerous boards of charitable organizations including serving as Chairman of the Board of The Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana and Chairman of the Board of Goodwill Industries of North Louisiana. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for The Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana, The Strand Theatre and the Willis-Knighton Health System. He currently serves as Compliance Officer for several health care organizations including one of Louisiana’s largest private hospital systems.
